Musi River


Sungai Musi menjadi tempat rekreasi untuk tua-muda dan anak-anak, termasuk wisatawan di luar kota Palembang. Di kawasan ini, pengunjung dapat menyaksikan Rumah Rakit, yaitu rumah tradisional khas Palembang.

Pada hari-hari perayaan tertentu, misalnya Hari Peringatan Kemerdekaan Indonesia, diadakan festival air, seperti perlombaan perahu, kontes menghias perahu, perlombaan berenang menyeberangi sungai dan lain-lain.

Biasanya pengunjung berdatangan pada sore hingga malam hari untuk menyaksikan matahari terbenam dan suasana malam yang diterangi lampu-lampu di sekitar sungai. Pada malam Minggu atau malam liburan lainnya, biasanya jumlah pengunjung yang mengunjungi jembatan Ampera dan sekitarnya akan lebih banyak.

Sungai Musi mempunyai panjang 750 Km dan merupakan sungai terpanjang di Pulau Sumatera. Sejak masa Kerajaan Sriwijaya, sungai ini terkenal sebagai sarana transportasi utama masyarakat. Di tepi Sungai Musi terdapat Pelabuhan Boom Baru dan Museum Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II.

Sungai Musi membelah Kota Palembang menjadi dua bagian kawasan: seberang ilir di bagian utara dan seberang ulu di bagian selatan. Mata airnya bersumber di daerah Kepahiang, Bengkulu. Sungai ini merupakan muara sembilan anak sungai besar, yaitu Sungai Komering, Rawas, Batanghari, Leko, Lakitan, Kelingi, Lematang, Semangus, dan Ogan. Sungai Musi penting bagi masyarakat Palembang karena sebagai salah satu alternatif sarana transportasi. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari banyaknya perahu (taksi) motor yang mondar-mandir membawa penumpang yang ingin menyeberang.

Ranau Lake

A. Brief Information
The word “Kerkoff” is derived from the Dutch language that means “graveyard,” while “Peucut” (Pocut) comes from Poteu Cut that means “prince.” Relief on the wall at the entrance gate mentions the names of the Dutch soldiers who were died in a battle against Aceh civilians (each of them states 30 names); the locations where they passed away, such as in Sigli, Moekim, Tjot Basetoel. Lambari en Teunom, Kandang, Toeanko, Lambesoi, Koewala, Tjot Rang – Pajaoe, Lepong Ara, Oleh Karang – Dango, and Samalanga; and the year when they were died (1873-1910 A.D.).
Amongst the Dutch soldiers, it was known that there was a group of soldiers consisting of people coming from Ambon, Manado, and Java. They were called Marsose. Those coming from the Land of Java were marked with IF letters (inlander fusilier) behind their name; AMB for those coming from Ambon; MND for those from Manado; and EF/F.Art for the Dutch soldiers.
B. Distinctive Features
There are 2.200 Dutch soldier graves in this two-hectare land. The tombstones were neatly organized in a row with white color on each epitaph. The gate’s left side is clearly engraved “In Memoriam General – Majoor JHR Kohler, Gesneuveld, 14 April 1873”.
Kerkoff Peucut is a symbol of the Aceh people’s struggle, bravery, and heroism for dedicating themselves to the homeland by fighting against the Dutch colonialism at that time. When the Dutch colonials arrived at Aceh in 1873 A.D., Jend.Kohler, who was died in front of Baiturrahman Great Mosque, and buried in Batavia on April 14th 1873, was the leader of the Dutch colonials assigned in the Land of Aceh.
Based on the recommendation from the Governor Muzakir Walad, and as a memorial of Aceh War, Kohler’s body was moved to Kerkoff on May 19th, 1978 A.D. Many local and foreign tourists, especially from Netherlands, visit the graveyard frequently.

Lake Laut Tawar

The existence of Lake Laut Tawar among the Aceh people is a proud for them regarding that it is a frequently visited destination either by local or foreign tourists. The water is not only used by people living in Central Aceh District, but also people who live in other surrounding districts.

There is a story relating to the existence of depik fish having slim shape and shiny scale that live in Lake Laut Tawar. People believe that depik fish is a grain of unhusked paddy that was thrown to the lake then later on shaped a fish. Depik fish appears to the lake‘s surface on certain occasions, especially on rainy season. Before the coming of rainy season, the fish hides in the slope of Bur Kelieten Mount, south of the lake. Depik is a miracle for Gayo people regarding that it will not be over though consumed forever and ever.
B. Distinctive Features

Two hills flanking the lake are the magnificent scenery enhancing the beauty of the lake. The meeting of the land and the water is the livehood resources for people living around the location, especially Gayo people. It is called laut (literally means sea) since the lake is as wide as a sea and called tawar (freshwater) as the water is not salty. Depik fish is the only species of fish that can only be found in Lake Laut Tawar.

In the lcoation you can see daily activities of surrounding people such as cultivating and fishing. Gayo coffee (Arabica Coffee) is the main comodity of surrounding people, especially Gayo. This kind of coffee is exported to Japan, as well as other comodities such as potato, passion fruit (Passiflora edulis), tomato, chili, corn, avocado and vegetable.

Lake Laut Tawar (5.472 ha in width, 17 km in length, and 5,5 km square) lies east of Takengon City in the highland of Gayo (at an altitude of 1.250 meters), Laut Tawar Sub-district, Nangroe Aceh Darussalam Province, Indonesia.

Before the tsunami suffered Aceh on December 26th, 2004, Lampuuk Beach was a favourite tourism destination for tourists visiting Nangroe Aceh Darussalam. The surrounding location offered the fresh air and tranquil nature to them who visited the location.

However, after that terrible tragedy, the beach began to deteriorate. Rubbishes were everywhere and casuarinas fell down splashed by the tidal wave of tsunami.

Now, Aceh regional government has been attempting to refurbish the location around Lampuuk Beach to attract many tourists following the Visit Indonesia Year 2008. On weekend, people visit the location for recreation and some other, especially researchers, use the location as an object for certain research as well. Though you are not allowed to swim, you can still do activities such as surfing and sailing. In addition, some peddlers along the coast are ready to serve the best foods and beverages for you.

Nearby the beach is a cement factory which suffered the most horrible damage when tsunami occurred in 2004. Next to the cement factory is an elegant mosque which kept standing firmly when tsunami suffered Aceh. Considering the location is the most terrible location when tsunami suffered Aceh, the local government decided to erect a monument to commemorate tsunami tragedy.

This white sand beach offers you the fresh air atmosphere, special for you who are looking for tranquil holiday ever. You are not allowed to swim there, but surfing and sailing are exceptions.
