Masjid Agung An-Nur is one of the grandest mosques in Indonesia and became a mosque Riau community pride. Historically, plans to build the Great Mosque of An-Nur has been there since 1963. However, new diterlaksana in 1966, when Kaharuddin Nasution became Governor of Riau. On 27 Rajab 1388 AH or coincide with the date of October 19, 1968, the Great Mosque An-Nur inaugurated its use by Arifin Ahmad, Governor of Riau time. In 2000, when Saleh Djasit became Governor of Riau, the Great Mosque An-Nur renovated on a large scale.
